China filed a criminal lawsuit against Uighur scholar IlhamTohti charging with separatism, a very serious crime in China.  After two days of trial, the Court in China has upheld the charge and has found against Tohti in lawsuit filed by the State.  And now Tohti faces life imprisonment.  Tohti’s case has received great attention from media, policy makers, human right activists, legal scholars and lay men and women.

Reports on Expert Witness Testimony in Litigation between Two Telecom Companies

Gurumurthy Kalyanaram - Former Dean and former NYIT and UT Dallas professor Gurumurthy Kalyanaram reports on his recent expert witness testimony in a lawsuit filed by a start-up telecom firm against a China-based telecom firm.

The background to the lawsuit is as follows.  A start-up telecom company based in US got a license in 2004 to operate in Liberia. The license was for the entire suite of telecom services.  As part of its launch preparation, the start-up explored a collaborative with a China-based telecom company to supply hardware.  The two telecom companies engaged in substantial conversation, and the both signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

In a lawsuit filed by Noel Canning, Canning challenged the constitutional validity of the appointments made by President Obama to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) when the U.S. Congress was in recess. Dr Gurumurthy Kalyanaram - Director of UT Dallas COHORT MBA Program

Dr Gurumurthy Kalyanaram was the founding-director of the full-time, daytime MBA program, Cohort MBA Program.  In 1995, Dr. Kalyanaram was appointed as the founding-director to conceptualize, design, and develop a new full-time, daytime MBA program.  Till then, UT Dallas offered only evening business programs for working adults.  It was decided that the university should offer a full-time day time MBA program – Cohort MBA program – in the Cohort format.  The goal was to design a high-quality and diverse MBA program in terms of students, faculty, curriculum, training and placement of students.  The Cohort MBA program now stands as a viable program, and UT Dallas is ranked as one of the 50-100 business schools in the country.

Major curricular design was undertaken.  Distinguished speakers series was started.  Scholarship funds were instituted.  The first class of 30 students started the program in 1996.

Dr Kalyanaram designed the curriculum (Innovation, Knowledge Economy), recruited the faculty and students, developed industry relations for placement, managed the budget, and led the Cohort MBA Program to be one of the top MBA programs in the country.

Dr Gurumurthy Kalyanaram was a tenured professor at The University of Texas at Dallas.  He served at UT Dallas from 1988 to 2001. During his tenure at the University of Texas, he was Chairman of the Department of Marketing, Senior Director of the Master’s Programs, Founding Director of the Cohort MBA Program, Chair of the Master’s Program Committee, and Faculty Liaison for External Affairs.

Management Review Editorial on Globalization from Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram

We are delighted to present to you six excellent research articles in this Special Issue, “Globalization of Markets and Work force.”

The article by Ford and Whaley addresses two important elements in work force, particularly in private sector and academe: collegiality and perception of justice. The analyses and recommendations are based on data from US. However, there is an evident level of generalizabiliy. Complementing this work, Srivastava examines specific challenges of job-related anxiety and stress among professionals in Mumbai.  While the work by Ford and Whaley is broader about the global work force, the work by Srivastava is very focused and specific. The findings reported in both the articles are applicable and appropriate.
