Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram, Professor, Academic Director of MBA Programs (globally) and Director of Faculty Research (NYIT)

Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram was a tenured professor at NYIT, and served as academic director of MBA programs in New York and globally (including Canada, China and Middle-East).  He also led the research efforts of the faculty as the Faculty Research Director.

Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram is distinguished professor with a long record of academic achievements and honors.  He received his B.E. degree in engineering in 1978 from the University of Madras, India, and his M.B.A. in 1983 from the University of Texas.  He earned his Ph.D from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1989 in the field of Management Science, where he won the prestigious Harold Lobdell award.


Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram pursued his academic career at the University of Texas, and was a full tenured professor at the University of Texas School of Management from 1998 to 2000.  During his tenure at the University of Texas, he was Chairman of the Department of Marketing, Senior Director of the Master’s Programs, Founding Director of the Cohort MBA Program, Chair of the Master’s Program Committee, and Faculty Liaison for External Affairs.

Dr. Kalyanaram Relator was a Visiting Scholar at The Kennan Institute, The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington, D.C., during 1990 to 1994.  He was also a Fellow at the Center for Russian and East European Studies, University of Pittsburgh, during 1995 to 1997.

Academic Director of NYIT MBA Programs

Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram was the Director of MBA Programs in New York, Canada, China and Middle-East.  In this capacity, he was responsible for recruitment of students and faculty, curriculum development, accreditation related matters and budgetary management.

During his leadership, major curricular reviews and revisions were undertaken.  Additionally, new programs and concentrations were designed and developed.   For example, a new program on healthcare management was started in collaboration with the medical school.  New MBA concentrations in Ecommerce, Innovation, and Economic and Public Policy were designed.

During his tenure, student enrollment increased but 30 percent and placement of students was at record 80 percent.

Director, NYIT Faculty Research

Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram was the Director of Faculty Research leading the research efforts of the faculty in increasing productivity through working papers, published papers, research conferences and monographs.

NYIT AACSB Accreditation

As Director of the MBA programs and Faculty Research, Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram also led the AACSB accreditation process in identifying and enhancing the academic and professional qualifications of the faculty, assessing and measuring student learning, defining the mission, and preparing self-assessment reports.

NYIT Senate

Dr. Gurumurthy Kayanaram was an active participant and contributor to University policy via NYIT senate membership.

NYIT School of Management Personnel Committee

Dr. Gurumurthy Kalyanaram served on the Personnel Committee, and was responsible for recruitment, retention, promotion and tenure decisions of faculty.
